Framing is one of the most important choices you’ll make after commissioning or purchasing an oil painting.
The right frame doesn’t just protect the artwork — it enhances the painting without stealing the spotlight, complements your space, and makes the painting feel truly finished.
Quick Note: Framing Small Paintings on Paper
If you’re collecting one of my small paintings on paper, the same framing options can apply - just in miniature. These pieces can either be archivally mounted to MDF with white-painted edges, ready to frame like my larger originals. Or, they can be framed behind a mount and glass for a classic, gallery-style finish. Just get in touch and I’ll guide you through options and pricing.
Option 1: Float Frame (Most Popular)

If you love a contemporary, gallery-style look, the float frame is the perfect choice.
This style works especially well with paintings on boards or panels, creating a clean, professional finish. A slim shadow gap between the artwork and the frame gives the illusion that the painting is “floating,” so all the attention stays where it should — on the artwork itself.
Why collectors love it: It’s simple, elegant, and versatile, suiting both modern and traditional interiors.
Frame width: 2 cm
Frame depth: 3 cm
Available finishes:
- White (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
- Black (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
- Natural lime wood (simple, timeless)

Option 2: Traditional St. Ives Frame

If you want something a little more classic and substantial, the St. Ives frame might be for you.
Here, the edges of the painting sit neatly under the lip of the frame, rather than “floating” inside it.
With more visual weight, this frame gives the artwork added presence and can make it feel larger on the wall — perfect if you’re looking for elegance with impact.
Why collectors love it: It adds gravitas and formality, while still keeping the focus on the painting itself.
Frame width: 8.5 cm
Frame depth: 2.6 cm
Available finishes:
- White (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
- Black (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
- Grey (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
Option 3: Frames for Canvas Paintings

If you’re commissioning a piece on traditional stretched canvas (rather than a panel), there are frame options designed especially for this surface.
Canvas tray frames sit neatly around the sides of the canvas, giving a polished, professional finish while protecting the edges. This style creates a seamless border that highlights the artwork without distraction.
Why collectors love it: It combines a tailored look with durability, letting the texture and depth of the canvas remain the star.
Frame width: 1 cm
Frame width: 3 cm
Available finishes:
- White (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
- Black (smooth finish, minimal wood grain)
