And yes… Painter really is my last name!

Hi, I’m Rachel Painter — a contemporary landscape painter living between the wild Cornish coast and the expansive skies of Exmoor. I create atmospheric, light-filled oil paintings that carry more than what the eye can see — opening a space for wonder, stillness, and possibility.

When Something Lights Up Within

I’m drawn to the moments when light transforms everything-

the sun breaking through clouds, colour spilling across land and water.

The familiar becoming breathtaking.

Something lights up inside - fully alive, unburdened, caught up in wonder.

That fleeting yet powerful stillness is what I paint.

Because when we meet unexpected beauty — in life or on canvas — something shifts within.

We soften.
Time slows.

And for a moment, we feel lifted - as if the world opens just a little wider, filling with hope, inviting us to take the next step toward what we cannot yet see.

Every painting begins with a moment of wonder

Each piece is made to bring that same sense of light, colour, and possibility into your home. The light and landscape becoming a visual metaphor for the memories, hopes, and dreams alive within us.

Contrast excites me.

My real fascination lies in bridging the gap between two different states —
the transformation that happens within that unexpected moment of wonder, when you are one thing in one moment, and something else in the next.

Jewel-toned hues meeting radiant earthy tones,
balancing depth with calm,
energy with stillness.

Soft veils of colour resting against spirited brushstrokes;

Translucency sitting alongside thick texture.

My work is about capturing a moment -
stopped in your tracks, yet full of movement, transition, and promise.

How a single moment can hold so many things -

a celebration of stepping courageously into life itself.

When Wonder Found Me

My story of rediscovering beauty, light, and the courage to begin again.

After studying graphic design at Falmouth University, I spent years pouring my creativity into community projects and youth work - sparking creativity in others while quietly setting aside my own.

But in 2018, a single, soul-stirring question cracked something open.

That sense of wonder didn’t just inspire my paintings - it led me back to the path I’d been avoiding, reigniting the dream I’d set aside for years.
