Finalist For The British Contemporary Art Award

When I first painted Paved In Light No.3, I wanted to hold onto that fleeting moment of a sunset swim beneath the riverside trees of the Helford River - the way the water turns to glass catching the last fire of the day. For a moment you’re suspended in colour, surrounded by light, and all feels still.

I could never have imagined that this painting Paved In Light No.3 would be selected for the British Contemporary Art Award. It came down to just myself and one other artist - a moment of recognition that felt both humbling and affirming.

The award celebrates contemporary British landscapes being created in the UK today, so to see my work acknowledged in this way, alongside so many inspiring artists, is something I’ll always treasure.

Paved In Light No.3 has since found its forever home, but the series continues to be a deeply personal body of work for me — paintings that try to capture those suspended moments of radiance, hope, and beauty in Cornwall’s ever-changing light.
