Commissioning A Painting For A Wife’s 40th Birthday - Broadsands Beach

COMMISSIONING A PAINTING IS A SPECIAL WAY TO CELEBRATE A MILESTONE BIRTHDAY. A BESPOKE PAINTING BRINGS YOUR FAVORITE PLACES AND CHERISHED MEMORIES TO LIFE, CREATING A STUNNING BACKDROP FOR YOUR HOME.

For one couple, the Broadsands Beach painting commission was a meaningful way to capture the light and beauty of their cherished walks together.

To celebrate her 40th birthday, her husband commissioned a large 120 x 90 cm piece that reflected their love and memories of sunsets at Broadsands Beach in North Devon — perfect to fill their large lounge wall with colour offering continual reminders of their treasured memories and beauty in their lives.

1. Sharing The Idea Behind The Broadsands Beach Art Commission

First off, Phil shared a couple of photographs of the specific scene he wanted captured. He also included some other sunset photos I could use to enhance the sky with more colour, emotional narrative and depth.

We don’t have to be stuck to photos with a ball and chain — we can craft it to the colours, light and feel that you want.

The initial stage of communicating and sharing ideas is an enjoyable stage in the process for both parties! It’s an opportunity for me to truly understand your vision, both visually and emotionally, so I can craft a piece that captures the essence of your desired scene.

2. Getting On The Same Page

I usually ask for 3-5 paintings of mine that you’d like your painting to be inspired by. It helps with our conversation and gives me an idea of how you’d like your painting painted.

Phil shared a few he picked out specifically that he loved:

  1. The autumnal colour palette & warm light

  2. Flowers in the foreground

  3. The brushwork to create the rocks & waves

3. The Unveiling

Once a painting commission is complete I send a final photograph to make sure you're happy and we can discuss framing or any other requirements you might have too.

For this piece Phil & Danielle wanted to travel from Devon to see my exhibition at “Enys Gardens Bluebell Festival” and collect their new special painting.

It was a lovely moment to witness Danielle’s face from the other end of the room when she first saw her new painting. Having not actually met in person I didn’t know who to look out for in the crowds of people viewing the exhibition, but her reaction gave her away!

This Broadsands Beach landscape art commission is more than just creating a piece of art. It serves as a reminder of the beauty in their lives, treasured memories, and the endless possibilities that life holds, offering continual inspiration and joy.
